The Veiling

Participants

The Veiling is very much a community event. Family units have their own celebratory rituals. They prepare feasts of thanks, acknowledging their survival of the winter months. The doors and windows of every home are draped in opaque material representing the Veil between the races. Individual families also leave a small offering appropriate for the lesser gods they studied with. Generally the offering was a space of study equipped with a writing utensil, ink if necessary, paper, a small snack, and a burning candle.

The larger community also has its own rituals. The neighborhood, village, town, or city prepares a week long celebration and spring festival. This includes a large feast on the final day of The Veiling, veiling of the doors and windows of shops and government buildings, protection rituals for crops and dairy animals, and decorating the communal green and trees.

Observance

Remembrance of the placing of the veils between the races of lesser gods, humans, and demons is celebrated from the thirty-sixth to the fortieth of Goddesson. The Veiling celebration occurs concurrently with a spring festival of thanks and requests for continued protection.
