Drop 5 - Assassinate

Mission Brief
We are offering a sizeable bounty for the head of a local outlaw. The target is a rogue local government MechWarrior who has attacked Lyran personnel and facilities in this system. We need a mercenary company to find her and take her down before she takes out her aggressions on any more of our settlements.     Drop Deck
Pilot Mech
Longshot Stinger STG-3G
Barbarian Urbanmech R60
Packrat Firestarter FS9-K
Moon Rabbit Assassin ASN-21
Action Report
Surface of Deweidewd, Moon Rabbit commanding.   Its very weird dropping without commander KooKoo but she couldn't go with us after her mission training the local MechWarriors. Sitting on top of a mobile fusion plant takes more out of a person than you might expect and the Med team won't release us to drop again for a few days after a mission. I don't really like the IVs they hook us up to but it gives me time to read.   Commander KooKoo briefed me on this my first command. She covered the terrain maps and the primary objective. All of that seemed normal. It was her warning that caught me unaware. She told me to watch out for the Stinger we were dropping with. Not the new pilot who no one had seen in combat but the Mech... seemed odd to me.   We dropped into a beautiful forested valley. The sun was up high but the hills kept us in the shade. We worked our way slowly north towards the target's area of operation (AoE). The Urbanmech's speed limited our advance but we'd be happy to have it's UAC10 when we contacted the enemy.   Just as we reached the edge of the forest sensors reported a contact to the west and another to the east. We immediately shifted our heading towards the west. We moved to engage one target before it could link up with its ally to the east.   Mercs don't fight fair... I'm not proud of that but I like living and I like money so I fight to win.   Longshot took the Stinger deep into the western woods and got a glimpse of our foe - a Firestarter. She managed to tag it with a medium laser. Packrat moved up and hit it with a full salvo - large laser, 2 small lasers, and 2 flamers that tore off the enemy's left arm. Barbarian moved up and smashed it with her UAC10 doing serious damage. That was it for the enemy pilot - they ejected.   Our heat was running pretty high so we all consolidated our positions in the woods while we bled off heat. The eastern contact obliged and moved closer.   The contact turned out to be a Wasp. It moved to edge of the eastern woods and fired at Packrat's Firestarter but only scratched the armor. Longshot made a gigantic jump into the Wasp's rear arc and shot at it with the Stingers 2 medium lasers. Not to be out done by the new pilot Packrat also soared across the gap between the western and eastern woods and fired an alpha strike into the poor Wasp knocking it down. We made short work of it after that.   We re-grouped and headed north up a very steep ridge. Again, Longshot in the Stinger ranged far ahead. That mech is very fast and nimble. I heard that Thurisaz lance lost a Stinger and a Pilot back on Biota. I'm pretty sure they did but I didn't ask. That kind of news depresses me so I tend to avoid it.   The Stinger, Firestarter, and Assassin pushed ahead looking for the target but not so far ahead that we lost contact with the Urbanmech. Barbarian and her UAC10 are well liked in our lance even if the Urbanmech is not.   Longshot called out on comms that she had the target in sight and that it was a Centurian CN9-A. I cringed a bit. That thing is huge and packs as much firepower as 3/4 of our lance.   I ordered the lance into motion. As we maneuvered for position the Centurian fired its AC10 at Packrat. Thank the winds it missed. The Stinger, Assassin, and Firestarter all leapt into the Centurian's back arc and fired precisely at the location where it's AC10 was housed blowing it off and panicking the pilot. The Urbanmech moved up and hit the Centurian with both rounds for its UAC10. The enemy pilot had enough and ejected.   Sumire extracted us from the forest and my first command all returned safe and unharmed.   Praise the winds!   Mission results
