Drop 5, March 21, 3025

  • Mission Brief
The LT dropped with a buncha kids yesterday, and today he had me do the same thing. I was to lead a lance of light mechs that the planetary capital had taped together out into some ugly-ass wasteland and destroy whatever hodge-pode mix of of mechs and tanks we ran across.   Intelligence told us to expect the rest of the pirate lance in our DZ.

  Action Report

There's been a lot of jaw-flapping around the mess hall about how the jump to this planet was a waste of time, and how it's a waste of our time to be holding a bunch of greenhorns' hands while they learn which end of the gun goes BOOM!  I can't say I'm particularly innocent of bitchin' myself, but to give credit, these yokels ain't half as yokely as I thought they were before I fought with them.

Me and the 3 fellers I was tasked to leading were s'posed to run a patrol route through the canyons outside the town of Gwnvi.  After the LT took out that pirate trashcan yesterday, we had it on good authority that the rest of the raiders might be headed into town to rustle up whatever supplies they could, and our job was to make sure they didn't.  We hadn't been on our patrol more'n 'bout 5 minutes when we got a radar hit.  We moved up slow and steady, cuz lets face it, how else are UrbanMechs going to move, and apparently caught the driver of the pirate Stinger asleep.  It didn't take 15 seconds to cut it down, and I'm pretty none of the guys missed a shot.  I mean, it didn't take that many shots, so I'm not trying to brag on 'em too much.

We were on our way to the end of our patrol when we got warning of another mech inbound.  I don't know if Sumire was trying to scare us or what, but she said it was a Big mech, all in her scary voice, and I'll admit, I thought for a second maybe we should make a break for it.  Ended up being a damn Wasp.  Not only that, but there were enough holes in the damn thing that I could probably have ridden a motorcycle through some of the missing armor.  Anyhow, ol' "Pontoon" smashed it down with a purty shot from his Autocannon, blowing off one of the legs, and the next round, I jumped in.  I could see the other leg was all but destroyed, and I remembered how disappointed the LT was when I blew that Panther to bits last time, so I tried to be careful this time.  Sure nuff, a few rounds of machinegun fire found the last bits of myomer holding that leg on and cut them apart, just pretty as you please.

The rest of the patrol was uneventful, and I'm happy to report that we didn't even lose a lick of paint, and we were able to bring home enough bits of the Wasp to help Yang patch up the one we've had in the bays for a couple of months.     Mission results
