Drop 4, March 20, 3025

  • Mission Brief
The planetary liason for the LCAF needed a single experienced Mechwarrior to evaluate the cobbled together demi-lance that the capital city of Cyfalaf had managed to scrape together. Intelligence reported only a minor pirate presence in the engagement area.

Burger Time (NPC) UrbanMech UM-R60

  Action Report

I suspect the Kommandant chose me for this mission based solely on the vehement hatred that KooKoo showed for this type of mission the last time she was chosen. That's fine by me. Honestly, after the beating the Lance took on Biota, we could use what usually proves to be easy money without having to risk more than one of our own Mechs.

True, the local greenies have a tendency to be either...highly enthusiastic...or completely unfit for combat, but every once in a while you find someone both competent and willing to leave their homes for a chance to travel the world.

The engagement area was a mostly flat plain with a few sloping hills. A local informant had good intel that pirates would be moving through the area on their way to their base. The lance was tasked with destroying any resistance found. From the beginning, the recruits under evaluation proved themselves to be of the enthusiastic type. The Commando pilot was far too hot-headed, and rushed ahead of the rest of us at the first sensor contact. Normally I like my scouts to do so, but "Guano" (seriously, I've known pirates with more sensible call signs than these pilots had), decided to park a 25-ton Commando in the open before trying to find the hidden force. Luckily, the enemy UrbanMech pilot was as incompetent a shot as those under my command today were, and the burst of autocannon fire that she ripped off at the Commando didn't come within 50 meters of hitting.

That was enough to push "Guano" back into the fold though, and we made an orderly advance after that. The enemy force was made up of that sole Trashcan, and except for a single round of fire that broke some of the armor on the Firestarter's Right Torso, the pilot proved inept. To be frank, the city defenders are greener than grass, and I'll be surprised if either "Guano" or "Stubble" make it through more than a handful of fights. "Burger Time" (I feel silly writing that.) however, could prove to be a capable MechWarrior if given enough opportunity. Both her piloting and aim were far better than some of the Mechwarrior's I've trained before. In particular, her second shot from extreme range cored the enemy UrbanMech. I have made discrete inquiries to see if she would be interested in signing on with Thurisaz Lance once we leave Deweidewd.
