The Mists

One thing that sets the world of Homeland apart from many in the multiverse is its lack of oceans. Instead, along the coast, as the ground falls away down the dry cliff faces, mist rises to meet the gaze of anyone mad enough to look out into its depths. The mist line averages around 250-350 feet below the surface.   In the Imperial Alliance, the Mist is a known quantity that is taboo. While there are the individuals that have done experiments, expeditions, and other research into the Mist they are shunned. The taboo comes from both the teachings of the 12 as well as from the practical matter of those who gaze too deeply into its surface are often driven mad. Some leap into the mist, others become violent, or despondent. Not everyone that glances for a moment at the surface of the mist is affected, but those who are are never the same.

Manifestation

The mists roll and shift constantly. They are normally in the grey/white range, but there are occasional odd patches ranging from greens, to blues and browns.
