Prince Izzat ibn-Dhisham al-Rahaman

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Prince Izzat was born under a crescent moon in the sands of the Solashi desert on the first Polsden of Eyla. His mother Dhisham had emissary work to do, and she wouldn't let a little thing like pregnancy stop her. One of her caravan penned a poem about the event, titled "The Tigress and the Crescent Moon Cub," which became a popular Solashi nursery song mothers sing to their children.   The oldest of her two sons, Izzat lived a charmed, comfortable life in Solash's capital city of Sal'Saran. He spent his youth being educated and trained in diplomacy, combat, and the passion of the dancing flame of Lazhira. He grew up in the shadow of his aunt, the Empress of Solash, and believed it was his destiny to ascend to the throne after her time had passed.   His first love was a childhood friend, Nayima. She was a worldly girl who ran with rough crowds in the city, but she and Izzat were close growing up and even had nicknames for each other; he called her Eanid (stubborn), and she called him Tazij (which translates to "soft," but with a connotation of mushy fruit). She was Izzat's best friend, and a mischievous girl. She challenged him to spend time in the city disguised as a commoner, to live like she did. She sometimes egged him into doing decidedly unprincely things, like swiping goods from merchants' stalls. As teenagers, she would frequently sneak into the castle to visit him at night.   One such night, Izzat confessed he had fallen in love with her, but she told him she did not feel the same way about him. In the morning, he woke up to find her gone, and he never saw her again. She had always talked about exploring the world, as she had little tying her to Sal'Saran, and that's what Izzat assumed she had finally decided to do. With a heavy heart, he decided to focus hard on his studies and training and try not to think of her.   Izzat's brother Mishaari left to study magic in Laubrok, and had been there for a few years when they received a letter from him. This in itself was not odd, but the contents of the letter had ominous portent. Mishaari had always had a knack for prediction. As children, he would warn Izzat of some danger, and Izzat learned to ignore these warnings was risky. The letter warned that Izzat had to get on a ship and leave the continent, or there would be dire consequences. With much heartache, this is how Izzat ended up on the Suicide King to cross the mist.

Sexuality

Pansexual. Pet name for Erik: Y'amar - my moon

Education

Izzat is the son of a priestess of Lazhira and a prominent politician of the Solashi court. He learned diplomacy and courtly ways at the elbow of his father, and the ways of Lazhira the dancing flame from his mother and other priestesses of the temple.

Mental Trauma

Izzat trained in martial arts under his uncle Zakaam, a zealot of the Bitch Queen. Zakaam was a cruel teacher whose methods utilized pain in all its forms. It didn't matter that they started training when Izzat was a boy of 9, Zakaam only expected excellence.   ***   A letter came from Izzat's brother Mishaari, who was studying in Laubrok. In desperation and fear, he ran to his mother, fell to her feet and clutched her dress, begging her not to send him away. His uncle, Zakaam, in a voice he only heard during their trainings, snapped at him, "Stand up, you soft boy. Your mother cannot help you know. Only your swords, if you can wield them."

A prince of the Solashi empire. Handsome and charismatic, young and idealistic.
