A former Deathstalker who also had an illegal MG infusion, giving her the ability to generate illusions, Melissa Snow was only in the career for the money. As time went on, she became more and more disenfranchised with the concept of being an assassin for hire, especially as she began to suspect that RESCUE was on her tail. Ultimately, she received a job offer with such a high paying reward that she figured that she could retire from her life of crime and start a new life altogether: The assassination of GadgetCorp Innovations CEO Nathan Pine.
The assassination attempt, however, was a setup: Nathan suspected that RESCUE was closing in on his own misdeeds, and needed a way to divert them off his tail, so set up a decoy to take the hit and fake his own death. Melissa herself was apprehended by RESCUE and interrogated for the murder, but was offered a pardon for her long list of crimes in exchange for helping them with the investigation into what they suspected Nathan was up to. Agent Arcana was accompanied by Raven and Rodney Nightingale, two fresh new Superheroes.
When they discovered that Nathan was still alive, Melissa began investigating his private office, where she discovered organ fabricators, brain mapping, and DNA splicing. It quickly dawned on her that he was attempting to clone himself in case he was destroyed, so she sabotaged the cloning process by combining Nathan’s DNA with her own, and mapping her own brain patterns into the same data as Nathan’s. The resulting clone, which she named Valkyrie Pine, was raised as her daughter.
