Goryu-Ten
Futatsu no Sekai no Goryu-ten (二つの世界の合流点 lit.The Confluence of Two Worlds), Goryu-Ten(合流点), or simply The Confluence was a paranormal event that affected all of Hinomoto in the fall 878 Ki-nai. During the Kisei Campaign, an earthquake struck and shook all of Hinomoto. Powerful gales swept over the kingdom as the skies darkened, storm clouds looming overhead. Not long after, everything started to flicker, slowly fading in and out of perception, as if they were slowly disappearing and reappearing.
Not long after, ethereal beings like Kami, Youkai, and other spirits could be seen and touched, felt and heard. Kami and Youkai noticed that humans could see them, they were as shocked as the humans were. Kami and Youkai were already believed to have existed, and there have been fleeting glimpses, but the Confluence proved that Shinkai (神界/World of the Kami)and its denizens undoubtedly exist. The barrier between Busshitsukai (物質界/Material World) and Shinkai weakened, seemingly uniting the two worlds.
Meanwhile, up north at Hokuhyuushu (北氷州), Kisei no Daiki and his campaign was abruptly put to an end. A black miasma started engulfing Hokuhyuushu. Everything this miasma touched withered and died, or turned twisted and corrupted. Daiki's army needed to retreat as the miasma started afflicting them, making them ill. The military campaign failed. The miasma continued to spread, and reached the northern regions of Motoshu (本州) and started afflicting life there, permanently scarring the region, leaving it gray and barren for centuries to come.
Daiki, feeling great shame that his campaign angered the gods, swore an oath that the clans of the Morigani Uji would defend the lands from Hokuhyuushu, or as it is called now, Kuramoto. Within two decades after the Confluence, the Onmyoji and the Onikiri would be formed in order to protect Hinomoto from the threat of Kuramoto and Yokai. The construction of Otorii Kabe was done in the hopes of defending Hinomoto from incursions from Kuramoto.
