Diotima House

Purpose / Function

Diotima House is the dormitory for wizard students. Occupancy is currently 144 plus 6 resident maestri. It was originally built just as teacher housing, but was expanded and repurposed as Hilltop's student body and course offerings outgrew the Main Building .

Alterations

The house is much larger on the inside than the outside, and has grown as the school population increases and new rooms are simply magically copied from older ones and folded into the space. Soundproofing and protective spells are also frequently updated as magical advances are made.

Architecture

The architecture from the outside is square and two storied with a simple pointed roof, white panels and dark half-timbering. It has a small decorative garden around it with a statue of the wizard Diotima in the middle. Inside, the common room, studies small kitchen, and maestris' rooms are all original architecture, but the student rooms are added on. The bottom floor consists of the common room, small kitchen, and four small studies, all wainscotted with heavy, dark wood, all high ceilinged, all intricately decorated. The original top floor was six spacious chambers for the maestri, but the staircase leading to this floor now leads simultaneously to that and 36 other floors, each containing one room copying one of the maestro's chambers but refitted to house four students, each with their own window, desk, chair, wardrobe, and enclosed box-bed.
