Monks of Kord

Religious devotees defined by strength of body and mind

Monks of Kord, the god of storms and battle, embody strength above all else. They venture onto the highest peaks of the mountains during a storm and stand firm in a deep, wide stance. Those who do not back down or are thrown from the mountain carry Kord's blessing as peacemakers, roaming far and wide to bolster the weak with their strength.

Monk subclass: Way Of The Mountain

Monks who follow this path embody the immovable mountain and the unstoppable avalanches and frigid storms that occur on nature's teeth. These monks have undergone rigorous strength training, wrestling with their foes and practicing deep, wide stances for hours at the mountain's lethal peaks.

Strong Foundations
Starting at 3rd level, monks that follow the Way of the Mountain may finally benefit from their years of strength training. You may substitute strength for dexterity when calculating your Unarmoured Defence and Deflect Missiles features (note: some DMs may allow this from 1st level)

At 3rd level, you also gain proficiency with Athletics checks. If you already have proficiency in these checks, you gain Expertise in the skill.

Mountain Stance
Starting at 3rd level, if you are subjected to an effect which would knock you prone or forcibly move you from your current location, you may spend one ki point and use your reaction to enter a Mountain Stance. While in a Mountain Stance, you cannot be moved or knocked prone until the start of your next turn. The stance only works if you are stood on solid ground.

Winds Of The High Peaks
Starting at 6th level, if you are currently grappling a creature of your size or smaller, you may spend one ki point to hurl it up to 30ft in place of an unarmed strike. The target takes damage equal to your martial arts die plus your strength modifier upon landing, plus any fall damage for distance travelled after the initial 30ft.
If you hurl it at another creature or object, make a ranged attack roll using your strength as if the creature was a thrown weapon, with which you are proficient. Both the target and the thrown creature take the damage stated above.

Roots Of The Mountain
Starting at 11th level, you can draw resilience from the earth itself. As a reaction, you can spend any number of ki points to roll a pool of your own hit die, and subtract the total from an attack or damage roll. The number of die you roll is equal to the amount of ki points spent, and those hit die are considered used for the day. You must finish a long rest before using this ability again.

Bassai Dai
Meaning “impenetrable fortress”, Bassai Dai is the pinnacle of the Mountain monk’s technique. Starting at 17th level, you are always considered to be in a Mountain Stance. You may grapple a creature of any size, and may throw it up to 60 feet using your Winds Of The High Peaks ability.
