Metalborn

A new breed of sorcerers with the power to control metal

Sorcerer subclass: Metalborn

Some creatures involved in industry are finding themselves blessed with sorcerous power. One theory is the metals and coal mined by the dwarves contain traces of magical minerals that imbue these properties on contact, but this has yet to be proven. Metalborn who have not yet reached their full potential find work in smithies, while one at full power can pull an entire airship out of the sky with a thought.

Bonus Proficiencies
Metalborn are proficient with light armour.

Reshape Metal
Starting at 1st level, you can use your Metalborn powers to reshape a non-magical metal object. The object must be within 5ft and weigh no more than 5lbs per sorcerer level you possess. The only limit is your imagination: for example, a dagger’s blade could be reshaped into a crude grappling hook, or the hinge of a door could be removed. The process takes one minute and can be used a number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifier.

Alloy Spells
Starting at 1st level, you gain a series of bonus spells called Alloy spells.

Level/Spell
1st. Catapult
3rd. Levitate
5th. Heat Metal
7th. Conjure Barrage
9th. Telekinesis

Metallic Strike
At 6th level, you learn to shape metal in the heat of combat. You may add your charisma modifier to any damage dealt by your Alloy Spells, provided the spell targets or consumes a metal object during casting.
If you cast a spell which targets or consumes a metal object this turn, you may spend one sorcery point to use one of the following cantrips as a bonus action:
Blade Ward (a floating metal shield)
Thorn Whip (a spiked metal tendril)
Projectile (metal shards)

Skyward Steel

At 14th level, you gain a greater mental control over metal. When applying Metamagic to your Alloy Spells, reduce that metamagic's sorcery point cost by 1 (to a minimum of 1) if the spell targets or consumes a metal object during casting.
You become proficient with medium armour. If you are wearing metal armour, you gain a flying speed of 20ft.

Metallic Savant
At 18th level, your mastery of metal is almost effortless. As an action, you may affect metal objects weighing up to 500lbs as if using telekinesis, without expending a spell slot.

Game Note: a Metalborn sorcerer may also choose to take the following cantrip.

Coinshot

0-level (Cantrip) Transmutation

Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 100ft
Components: V, S, M
Materials: One or more small coins, nails or metal objects lighter than 0.2lbs
Duration: Instantaneous
You choose a small coin, nail or similar metal object in the palm of your hand, and that object shoots out towards your target. Make a ranged spell attack roll. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 piercing damage.
At higher levels: You may fire an additional object when you reach higher levels: two objects at 5th level, three at 11th level, and four at 17th level. You can direct the objects at the same target or at different ones. Make a separate attack roll for each object.
Available for: Sorcerer
