Cloud People
Though this phenomenon occurs all over the planet of Venus, it is most common throughout The Rookery. The reason for this is two-fold. Firstly, the sheer size of The Rookery automatically makes it more inclined to attract more activity as there is more space for it to occur. However, the greater reason is related to the altitude of the mountains. While the “cloud people” can manifest anywhere, they do most commonly show up in mountains and cliff sides.
. The “cloud people” are vaguely humanoid in shape and size, but it can still vary to look like any number of species. They appear to be made of a hazy, green mist, but they still have limited physical properties. When they arrive, either single or in groups, they seem to come from nowhere, but soon make themselves known. Through no apparent physical means, they will erupt with a cacophony of primal noises that seem unnaturally loud, but in truth make no sound at all. Even those with little or no hearing will be able to hear these shrieks as they pierce into them.
It's unknown how often they manifest as it can’t be certain if they are most often spotted in populated areas or if those are simply the only places there are witnesses to report them. Whenever they do arrive it is advised that you retreat through any means possible. They will aimlessly thrash about and destroy all surrounding buildings objects, often without physically touching them. When they do touch a living being the pain has been described as tortuous and harrowing. Even after the damage has been done, if the injured is still alive, they will often be left with unexplained emotional damage that leaves them stunted, fragmented or even catatonic.
While there is no known way to combat these “cloud people” they have been shown to have aversions to certain metals. Chief among them being the metal alloy that The Harbinger is composed of. As such most Rookery villages will have a few precious items shaped from this metal for protection. Outsiders have found little else to drive these beings away with and are forced to wait for them to dissipate as they often do after several dozen minutes. Outsiders have reported that more rare Atlantean alloys have properties that can drive off and even possible dispel these “cloud people”, but these stories are largely unsubstantiated.
Though not known to any of the residents of The Rookery or any other settlement for that matter, the “cloud people” are yet another unfortunate side effect of Ra’s Tower of Souls. As the souls of the deceased from across the cosmos are intercepted from their final rest and brought to The Tower, not all of them manage to make their way there properly. Those souls who do get lost intermingle with the magically infused clouds that The Tower creates and find themselves walking across the Venusian landscape. These poor souls, confused and lost, are unaware of the pain they are inflicting and truly are the damned.
