Annalucia Nox (Ann-ah-loose-ee-ah Nocks)
Apostle of the Evening
Description
Annalucia Nox is a tall, strong human woman with inky black hair that falls like shadow across her pale skin. Appearing to be in her forties, Annalucia has not visibly aged by those who have visited the temple over the decades. When asked, she would simply ignore the question or thank the blessings of the sun for her appearance. Given the location of the Altar of the Evening, Annalucia is in heavy, formal wear almost all of the time. She wears several layers of dresses that are covered by a final blue robe of delicate design with solar symbols embedded within it. However, her dress is more than practical, it is also a fashion statement. The fine workmanship of it complete with her golden jewelry that she adorns herself with give forth an air of sophistication and nobility that she has worked decades to cultivate.History
Annalucia does not share much of her past, even with her closest peers, but what is known is that she grew up in Maksur Das, deep in the undercity. She refuses to elaborate on her life there, simply stating that “she can’t go back.” Whether this because of bad memories, exile, or something else is completely unknown. However, during her time traveling across Kumari she did what she had to survive and suffered greatly for it. However, when all hope was lost, she saw something in the distance. A great flame in an midnight black palace. As she made her way closer to the only shining light on the sky-side horizon, it became clear it wasn’t a palace, it was a temple. Over the next decade Annalucia studied dutifully at the temple. She felt safe there. It was always exceeding quiet in the Altar of the Evening. The Apostle of the Evening at the time was a thora named Illyna. She herself was a failed Pilgrim, she became too ill to continue the Pilgrimage so her journey stopped at the Altar and she never left. During a point in her Pilgrimage before she was replaced she had sacrificed her tongue to the flame to bless a community in need, and as such never spoke. The other follower of the Altar tend to bury themselves in tomes and books, leaving Annalucia with little company besides the sound of footsteps, the crash of the waves, and the crackle of the flame. This solitary life suited her and over the years she took it upon herself to greet travelers. Never with any particular warmness, but with a sense of formality. When Illyna finally passed from age and illness, Annalucia took the title of Apostle of the Evening for herself as there was no proclaimed successor. None of the other followers opposed this, but whether because they agreed that she should be the new Apostle or because they were timid to speak against it is unclear.Personality
Annalucia is a solemn woman. She treats every occasion with great respect. Some people confuse this with coldness, and to some extent they may be correct, but that’s never her primary focus. Perhaps it was her troubled childhood, or her isolation within the Altar, or maybe something else entirely, but she doesn’t seem fit to change it. She seems to hold rules above all else and will immediately call out any behavior that doesn’t fit into the proper guidelines of the Church or her own standards. All the same, she will always help those in need. No one will be turned away looking for a bed or food, but at the same time she believes that while we are provided gifts, it is still our responsibility to do things for ourselves, so outside of the necessities to live, she will provide seldom else.
