Lamia Species in Hellverse | World Anvil

Lamia

Lamia are a snake like Minor Demon species that claim to be children of Hydras. They are often seen as exotic by Greater and Lesser Demons but because of their fierce nature and physical strength, they suffer less subjugation than other Minor Demons.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Pure blooded Lamia have no legs or hair and their entire body is covered in scales. The farther one is from a pure Lamia, the fewer Lamia traits they have. A half Lamia may have legs, for example. Or a quarter lamia may have a tail of scales but their upper body is more like that of a Greater or Lesser Demon with skin and hair.

Genetics and Reproduction

Lamia are not typically monogamous and mate as they please. Some Ethnicities will leave their eggs while others will raise their own children, making some Lamia come off as feral since they were never socialized and forced to survive after birth alone.

Growth Rate & Stages

Full-blooded Lamia tend to grow faster, hatching from small eggs and reaching maturity by the age of 10, though they are not seen as sexually mature until their 40s by most other Lamias.

Ecology and Habitats

Lamia's are very well adapted to most environments though many are exceptionally fond of water, which they easily become possessive of.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Lamia can eat plants and other things though they technically prefer meat over all else.

Biological Cycle

Lamia shed their skin every month (~90 days) and have been known to lightly hibernate if forced under major ecological or social changes.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Most Lamia have heat sensing abilities, making them better hunters and fighters at night.
