Quest: The Harvest Festival

Harvest festival: The party is invited out to the harvest festival in Amun'Hn, along with lots of the other members of the Hekan Guard. As they party around and generally have a good time (prep some party games for this), night starts to fall suddenly and a dark fog rolls thru the town. Suddenly a BUNCH of fucking shadowfell dogs and beasts come running thru the town, killing and attacking ruthlessly. The party must help the guard fight them off and kill a nightwalker and nighthaunt, along w/ shadow mastiffs. They find that huge portals have been torn thru the town and night seems to be permanently set on Amun'Hn, for the moment. They can either continue to fight or help people evacuate. It's scary. The town is cleared out several days later, but the town still needs to be rebuilt. Rane sets the members of the guard who were there on a path to figure out who the hell caused this and opened the portals to the shadowfell, and try to find out if it'll happen again. The party has a few leads to follow- The first step is going around to the scouts around Heka and seeing what they say. It'll be revealed that these attacks have occured in a few diff continents as well.

Structure

Exposition

The party takes the boat ride to Amun'hn. It's a chill fall desert day, the air around them cold and the sunlight the color of ozone. Travel is uneventful, but they see a LOT of boats all travelling down the river to make it to Amun'hn and other towns. Along the banks of the river people have set up camp, partying and selling wares and generally having a good time. They make their way down into Amun'hn on the day of the festival, where people are already partying like crazy.    The city is decorated in oranges and reds, silks and wheat and decorations representing feritlity and harvest. The festival is to celebrate two aspects of the fall season- the annual crop harvest and flooding of the nile that brings fertility in the coming spring, and the thinning of the veil between the material plane and the planes of the dead- specifically the celestial plane, the shadowfell, and the astral plane. It's a time of celebration of life and feasting, along with celebration of those who have passed. Many shops have left offerings out for thee Akhu- the dead, the spirits of their ancestors. There's also plenty of games and festivities around, and a whole lot more people than anyone in the party is used to seeing.  At various statues of the gods around town and temples, folks are celebrating and praying to their gods.    A statue of Osiris is carried through town, praising him for his protection of their dead.   The party is free to roam as they wish- it's mid-day when they arrive.   The folks who are there: Ami, A big beefy dock worker named Gef, Novos, Arryll, Andreas, Torr, Bex, Monty, Sesh, Rane, Adrian, plus a LOT of people

Conflict

Tattoo Art: A triton woman named Ulu has set up shop by the docks. She's got a lot of customers around- specifically Jou, getting some new ink of a Duneskimmer. She's gruff but kind, and will explain that she's a tattoo artist who usually lives out in the ocean but came ashore to do some business for the festival. The race goes from the western docks to the end of the eastern docks- the competitors are some sailors, a rag-tag group of adventurers, and Ami and his crew.   Eating Contest: A LOT of food is being served, and an eating contest is held in the center of town- they gotta eat some bread. It's a bunch of con checks.   Arm Wrestling:  Strength saves!   Dice games, drinking, partying, gambling, etc.   All Npcs from the Hekan guard are there, along with Langhal's crewmates and Ami. Ami will be telling stories in the bar. Amun'Hn

Rising Action

As the sun falls deeper in the sky and starts to set, the night suddenly gets much darker and colder. The light of the sky seems to dissapear entirely, and there are suddenly screams around the party.   Portals in several of the streets tear open, inky black and oozing dark fog out into the night. An army of shadowfell monsters is attacking the town, headed by a mysterious black-cloaked figure in dark armor on a nightmare.
