Forgefather's Gift

In the first age, when shadows first fell on the realms of Mímameiðr and the hot bones of Dýrsal, the great Beast of Life, first began to cool, Hyrrhorn looked upon His great works and knew that He was finished. He took up His hammer and scribed unto it a mark with the tip of one of His great many horns, and with that mark, He gifted His greatest tool to His favored children; for only a dverge who embraces the true Passion of their Creator can carry the Forgefather's Gift to Us.   ~ a passage from the Book of the Flame, a religious text of the Cult of the Embered Forge
The Forgefather's Gift is a legendary hammer, revered by the fortborn dverge and said to posses a fraction of the power of Hyrrhorn himself. Equal parts tool and weapon, the Forgefather's Gift is capable of destruction and creation alike. Perpetually, and perhaps intentionally, lost to the ages, the Gift has not been seen since well before the Time of Darkness came to a close.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Forgefather's Gift is said to be capable of forging steel even without the presence of an Ember of Hyrrhorn, rumored to produce finer weapons and arms than any others in the realms, and itself is thought to be capable of sundering even the mightiest ðyrs with little effort. The Architect of Balance, once when reincarnated as a dverge, theorized that the head of the Forgefather's Gift may contain an exceptionally powerful and dense Ember of Hyrrhorn, but was never able to find the Gift to confirm this hypothesis.

History

For centuries untold, the dverge have revered and sought the Forgefather's Gift. Said to be created at the dawn of time by the god Hyrrhorn, the Forgefather supposedly imparted his gift on the dverge at the conclusion of the Age of Betrayal. In the known history of the realms, only a few dverge have ever found the Gift, let alone had the fervor to wield it. During the Time of Darkness, the Gift was wielded by Emeric, where he used the hammer not only to forge weapons that have become artifacts in their own right, but also as a tool of fiery devastation against the ðyrs.

Significance

Dverge consider the hammer to be a direct gift from their patron and creator Hyrrhorn - to them, finding and wielding the Gift is one of the ultimate achievements they can strive for in their lifetime, many dverge having left a mark on history simply as they searched for the hammer. If one were to find the hammer - and find the strength of heart to lift it - they cement themselves as a pinnacle of their people, chosen by Hyrrhorn himself to wield his sacred tool.
