Bucket Racers

When Aster brought us here, we made a new camp high in the trees, but it meant daily trips to the river for water. We began to have races, to see who could carry their load of buckets, then the race grew, starting at the top, and with bonuses for more buckets, and fuller buckets - it was the most fun we had found since the beasts had driven us from our home.

While the woad is a hostile and freezing environment, the khertyr of Hardhaven took great delight in the early days of the settlement in racing each other to the river and back, filling and hauling as many buckets as they could carry.

Purpose

The bucket racers once filled a vital role in the community of Hardhaven, hauling up the necessary water for the burgeoning community before their was any real infrastructure.

Many bucket racers wielded hooks or clawed gloves, alongside an array of complicated harnesses and containers meant to maximize a racer's weight without sacrificing too much of their mobility. Some racers ran the races without any gear beyond buckets, usually as a point of pride or a way to honor the very first racers.

Dangers & Hazards

The Stórrwoad is incredibly dangerous, to this day. The area around Hardhaven is mildly more hospitable than the woad deeper in, but even it has its share of monsters and hazards. The woad is freezing cold, and impossibly dark, with maw hunters, forest swingers, and gapers all roaming the region of woad between Hardhaven and the Ðyrs Flow.

Demand

Since the construction of the Tall Mill, this profession is purely symbolic and occurs rarely. It is effectively obsolete.
