Personal history

Liam was born to a poor family living in the slums of Aeropolis. Street life was what he grew up surrounded by, with his family caught in a trap of poverty that they couldn't seem to get themselves out of. As Liam grew in this environment, it gave him an intuition about people and how to interact with them to survive. He learned what to say to earn himself or his starving parents a free meal. He found out where to look to get clothes that while may not have been suitable for most anyone else, proved more than sufficient for someone like him who didn't have an alternative. He learned when to cry and make a scene and when to not make a sound. He learned the local gangs and what places to steer clear of, and when to steer clear of them. Loan sharks, thugs, and drug dealers became pieces on a game board of life to him, with himself the tactician that would steer his family out of the hole they've found themselves in.     Using the wisdom that a life in the slums taught him, and his disposition towards a tactical mindset, Liam managed to collect enough money over time to move himself and his parents outside of Aeropolis entirely. He convinced the both of them to set up a small business, with the focus being his father's woodworking hobby. The town selected was perfect for this kind of an opportunity. A little town called Astoria, with a history of budding adventurers passing through. His father found good work producing all manner of little souvenirs. The money wasn't excellent, but it was enough to secure his mother and father with a decently comfortable lifestyle. They never wanted much more than that to begin with. Anything was an upgrade from the life that they used to have. Liam did not stick around however, he had to make his own life too, he didn't want to be a financial burden on his parents.     Over the years since then, Liam had done his fair share of soul searching by traveling across the world and trying to find his place in it. He took jobs as a mercenary to keep himself well funded during this time. He eventually made his way into Zeppelin, a place that he had always considered to be one of the world's great modern wonders. A flying city. It didn't take him long to figure out that he wanted to stay there on a more permanent basis. He didn't have the skills needed to become an engineer, and he didn't feel that this was what the city needed of him either. He knew exactly where his tactical way of thinking would be best put to use, and that was at the very top of that wondrous tower. The bridge. He had his sights set on becoming the Captain.   The current captain was getting on in age, it was a stroke of luck that he didn't show up on Zeppelin after somebody else was already given the position. Liam went on to make his presence known. He used his charm and wit to become a known figure in the city. He signed up for its military, and proved his leadership skills by raising up within the ranks and becoming very popular with his superiors for his strong work ethic, almost supernatural sense of awareness, and social charm. He caught trespassers, he had stopped a sabotage attempt twice, he cleaned up the city of as much organized crime as he could and consistently made it harder for them to operate. Corruption within the city's governing body, however minor it was, got weeded out by his continued efforts. Beyond that, it was also always easy for him to stand out among the others by the simple fact of him being human.   When the time came for the Captain to pass on his hat to someone else, he selected Liam to be Zeppelin's new leader. He pretended to be shocked, and humble about the selection. He offered up a short list of other names that he figured might have also been acceptable, but the Captain insisted. He didn't want an engineer in that seat in the bridge. What he wanted was a tactician.   Checkmate.
