The Heart of Darkness
"Behold the heart of the world! Progenitor of life, father and mother, alpha and omega! Our creator... and our destroyer"
The Heart of Darkness is an immensely powerful aberration of godlike proportions, apparently residing within the undulating chaos of the Far Realm. Unlike many of that realm's denizens, the Heart seems to have a keen interest in mortal existence and affairs. Its presence can be felt wherever the barrier between reality and the Far Realm grows thin, as well as places in which its servants and "children" have grown strong.
Goals and Motivation: According to the Daelkyr known as Ilmeth in Stygia, the Heart of Darkness seeks to cause instability within the Realms of reality, so that it might weaken and subsequently devour them. It seems interested in Corrupting and warping mortal individuals.
Powers and Abilities: The Heart's full capabilities are unknown (and likely impossible for a mortal to understand), but a few of its primary modes of influence have been observed. First, it can influence the minds of those affected by Corruption, a strange phenomena caused by exposure to aberrant events and evil acts. Second, it can warp life to its own purpose, creating humanoid abominations and aberrations like Gibbering Mouthers. Finally, its "children," The Daelkyr, are extensions of its will and power, although they maintain separate personalities and do not possess the full extent of the Heart's power.

The Old Blood
- The Old Blood reshapes the Divine Spark within mortals and molds their body into a new form, often symbolically connected to their darkest self
- An excessive dose of the Old Blood causes uncontrolled transformation into horrific monstrosities, as well as death outright
- The researchers in the Golgontha Research Labs used The Old Blood to conduct strange experiments, transforming humanoids into horrifying monsters
- The Beast Plague was directly caused by the administration of The Old Blood, which itself was distributed by the Healing Church
- Ancient ruins beneath Hamlet hold a fountain filled with the Old Blood
