Thunderking

Thunderkings are incredibly powerful and elusive storm elementals that inhabit the upper atmosphere and are often found near mountain summits. Contrary to popular belief, they do not control Havenfield's weather entirely, though they are able to kickstart lightning storms if particularly furious or emotional.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Thunderkings have a very serpentine appearance, with their upper body being mostly solid and tapering off into a long tail made of storm clouds. Their body is dark grey, almost black, and their lower jaw and abdomen is a faded dark teal with the tips of their long horns glowing a bright sky blue and sparking electricity when enraged. Rows of bioluminescent spots cover their horns and body, and a sideways-opening slit on their face hides their mouth. Their internal organs and blood is faded turquoise and their beak-like teeth are a dark, shiny charcoal grey, bared only in a threat display. Teal ear fins frame their jawline and strong webs connect their singular pair of forelimbs to their torso.

Genetics and Reproduction

Thunderkings harboring an extremely large amount of energy, most of which they wouldn't normally need, can channel this energy into forming a new youngling. Not only is it a much less destructive form of releasing pent up energy, but it also keeps the species alive.

Growth Rate & Stages

Juvenile Thunderkings grow extremely fast, usually only taking a few months at most to reach their adult size. As they grow, they gradually learn to control their elemental abilities with the guidance of their adult guardians.

Ecology and Habitats

Thunderkings inhabit the upper atmosphere and travel constantly, often preferring to live above rainforests, swamps and other high-humidity areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Thunderkings don't eat, as they generate the majority of the energy they need from their own cores. If they happen to grow weak from excessive magic use and are too drained to safely recollect energy on their own, another Thunderking can spare some of their own to give the weakened individual a boost.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

The sides of the mouth are partially covered by flat, fleshy mandibles and flare out when opening the mouth. A diamond-shaped magical gem of a bright azure blue color sits on the forehead between the eyes - which Thunderkings have two pairs of, with horizontal pupils and light blue irises - and glows brightly when magic is being used.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Thunderkings inhabit the skies of almost any biome on the planet, but they all avoid the Devil's Horn due to local superstition.

Average Intelligence

Sapient and extremely intelligent.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

All elementals have incredible sensory capabilities, but Thunderkings take it to another level. As the revered masters of the sky, there's not much they haven't observed from above with their sharp eyes and deceptively sensitive hearing. They are some of the most powerful magic users on the planet as well, with their primary communication method with each other being incredibly finely tuned telepathy.
Lifespan
Unknown - presumably at least centuries.
Average Height
Torso is usually around 4 ft on average, tail length can vary wildly but is usually double the length of the torso.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Dark charcoal grey body with faded teal abdomen and underside, blue bioluminescent markings and patches of skin that glows when enraged. The tips of the horns also glow in a similar manner.
