Wormwater
Wormwater is a flooded lava tube cave system that supports a fairly diverse selection of animal and fungal life. Home to a tribe of humans, the Micine. The water here is always cold after advancing through the winding entrance. A glowing fungus, thankfully, lights the cave, if not dimly. There is only so far one can traverse here in a boat, and after a while, travelers are met with a very small trading outpost maintained by porters. For an exorbitant fee, one can have a porter help you cross through to locations beyond.
Geography
Caves that require mostly rafts or boats to traverse hide secluded groves lit by skylights open to the world above. Thick fungal mats like purple and red vines with tiny flat, round leaves can be climbed by the agile. Bats and small cave-birds pass by in chittering swarms, devouring the insects that also hide here. Fragrant herbs and exotic spices are found in some of the most remote of these surface-bordering caves.
Deeper in, there is no natural light. A cave fungus' extremely dim glow makes traversing surprisingly easy once accustomed. Some areas are also lit by luminescent plankton. Fish swim calmly here and feed on underwater mushroom that are in turn fed by bat droppings and dead matter such as insects.
Natural Resources
Rare spices and herbs used medicinally and for dyes are found in the upper caves. Many varieties of fish and mushroom are harvested here by the locals.
