Luckloud

The sloped smooth puddled adobe walls of Luckloud, supported by great black timbers and adorned with wrought iron fixtures seems forboding at a distance, but draw closer and the intoxicating aromas of the kitchens and inviting clamor of the taverns dissolves any hesitation and beckons one in. Passing through the thick adobe walls guarded atop a couple squat shaded towers by lazing archers and slingers, you enter Luckloud. A dirty hamlet serving the explorers, traders and pilgrims venturing NorthEast to the volcanic rubble fields and to the East, beyond a few dunes to the blinding abyss of al Tabaq. At its Southern gate, a beaucholic gatekeeper charges a nominal fee for entry in whatever currency is available, usually a copper coin or small foodstuff. A portly fellow who constantly pats themselves with an embroidered headwrap, he opens the smaller single-person corner door of the gate. Outside the walls is situated a stables for the blind albino camels popular in the nearby areas, and a stinking refuse heap being picked over by some ragged hunched scavengers. Upon entering through the main gate, you'll be greeted by beggar children, hawking stolen wares or information. Beyond them, the small marble town wellpump marks the center of a flagstone-paved plaza surrounded by a few food and housewares vendors. About town is constructed a ramshackle boardwalk leading to taverns, inns, and a few other shops. The residential district and administrative quarter as well as a shantytown occupy the remaining interior.

Demographics

Undiscriminating home of exiles, outcasts, criminals, the adventurous, the rabidly insane, the unscrupulous, the eccentric. The town of very few children, and many beggars.

Government

Governed by a plutocratic Dutchess, her appointed officers, and lower elected officials. Many corrupt positions of power are available as the lifespan of each is relatively short.

Defences

A small garrison of poorly trained footmen, archers and slingers idly watch from the towers and patrol the streets.

Industry & Trade

A new emerging industry, lenses are finding rediscovered uses at a breakneck speed. Speculation and stockpiling are currently driving up the price for this special commodity. The sands found just East of the town in the nearby foothills are of an excellent quality for this and there is where you would find the manufactories.

Infrastructure

Boasting a modest water collection system utilizing low-quality windmills to pump well water into a couple stonework water towers, a modest boardwalk and paved plaza, and a communication network consisting of horns, whistles, and speaker tubes.

Districts

Administrative quarter, Tavern district, the Slums, town outskirts, Residential district, the Market

Assets

Thought to hide the treasure hoards of many a nearly-forgotten raider lord, the area and surrounding lands are a favorite haunt of treasure hunters.
