Borrowers

Often after a relaxing midday nap, one will find they have been visited by The Borrowers. Some exaspiratingly wish they were called 'the Returners' instead. These casual raiders steal only what they need, and live by a sort of code of ethics, sworn to carry no lethal weapon. In a conflict or capture, many accept their fates to work off thier debt in servitude, although some meet darker fates at the hands of their captors. Considered a serious nuisance, they are hunted, but without much zeal. They appear as desert nomads or blend in as travellers but are usually conspicuously light on provisions, and often poor and unlucky folk are accused as such.

Structure

Loose bands of Borrowers are led by a tribal chief, who imparts strategic wisdom and settles bounties and debts related to captured members.

Culture

Cityfolk, merchants and warlords of lesser repute are often able to persuade these groups to impoverish a certain target. This can be used to wage proxy war or reduce political backlash, secretly weakening thier foes.

Assets

The thieves carry only what sustains them: clothing, waterskins, packs for carrying, medicine and foodstuffs.

History

These bands have slowly gained a popularity amongst the outcasts of the large cities, seeing the corruption of wealth as symptom of private property. In the past they kept a great distance from civilized regions and preyed mostly on lost merchants and those on the brink of death, but growing competition has emboldened them.
