Bakestone
Bakestone starts as a soft soapstone that is easily worked, then is covered in a creek mud and cooked long in an oven until it becomes nearly clear and very rigid. It is often used for skylights, primitive windows, crude lenses, housewares and ceremonial and personal items such as hairpins, combs, buttons, and jewelry. Many quality grades exist from murky quartz-like opaque white to almost perfectly clear, with striations and inclusions resembling wood or marble.
