The Castle Field
A four-foot-high stone wall encloses a clearing adjacent to the keep known as the castle field. Although the wall will not stop a determined trespasser, the combination of brambles along the outside, rose bushes along the inside, and fiercely territorial geese running free in the yard make trespassing uncomfortable.
A large L-shaped stone-and-wooden building stands within the castle field, to the east of the keep. For practical reasons, and also because the keep is not large enough to house all the staff, the light horse squadron, the bonded ostler, and the bonded weaponcrafter are quartered here. This building also houses the stables.

The Stables
The constable keeps eight palfreys, six heavy warhorses, and ten light warhorses for the light horse squadron. This is more than the fourteen stalls can hold, so the stables are always full and busy. A half-squadron of light horse regularly patrol the hundred, keeping five or six horses away for three days at a time and easing the pressure on the stables. The light horse squadron are responsible for their own mounts, which also reduces Ferot’s otherwise heavy workload. The horses are put out to pasture each morning. The stable lass, brown-haired, 17-year-old Jaythe of Tannis, sleeps in the loft. Aelstor Kaphin often pays her visits at night. 2 Common Room
The light horse squadron breakfast and socialise in this room but eat their main meals in the great hall with the other keep staff. It is sparsely furnished and often empty. Until last year this room was the chambers of the bonded weaponcrafter. As the current weaponcrafter is the ostler’s wife, it is no longer needed for this purpose. 3 Weaponcrafter’s Workshop 4 Ostler’s Workshop
Ferot and Barda share the three rooms adjacent to the stables. 5 Bunkroom
The first manus of the light horse squadron are quartered here. Mólarin Chastyn has the bed by the door. 6 Bunkroom
The second manus of the light horse squadron are quartered here. Arkálin Arbogar has the bed by the door. 7 Guard Commander’s Quarters
This room is shared by the two noble Hùlhûrin. Recently appointed, Sir Stok is uncomfortable about sharing sleeping quarters with Lady Blyra. She seems unconcerned by the arrangement.
