Baseta Economics

Baseta prospers from the fertile soil of the surrounding area and the innkeepers, teamsters, and others who profit from the flow of trade.
The abundant forests of the area produce a surplus of charcoal, much of which finds its way to Olokand and Tashal. Many of the vassal manors boast a charcoaler, more than is typical for such a fief.
Due to trade with the Taelda, furs, especially beaver, badger, and rabbit, are plentiful. The amount far exceeds Baseta’s demand, but such pelts find a ready market elsewhere in the kingdom.
Mercantylers from all over Kaldor either come to Baseta or send factors in order to buy furs. Many of them will trade in metals like iron and tin, which are in demand as Baseta has no nearby mines.
There is an expanded market four times a month on each of the Peonian Lesser Sapelahs and an annual Fur Fair in mid-Halane. The Taelda are often seen in Baseta on these days.
The three-day fair brings in folk from all over the hundred, eager to see what new sights and goods are in the offing.
The Constable hosts various games and attractions. A highlight of the fair is always the on the third day when the Taelda demonstrate their skill with archery. Due to the large number of freehold farms – many of them Jarin refugees – there is often a surplus of cash crops like fruit and flax.
Some of the refugee freeholders have begun to distill the fruit into brandy, and others have made a stronger beverage from their homeland they call ‘uisgebagh.’ The Red Swan Inn has recently started offering it to patrons.
