Xerxes was the first son Darius the Red conceived with Empress Atossa after becoming emperor. He was a proud and powerful man. His desire and potential were both unlimited. He had an extensive relationship with the working girls of Arsalan and may have sired several illegitimate offspring. He was Atossa's first pick to succeed Darius as emperor and Darius, despite preferring Artobazanes, could not make an adopted son his heir over his true son.

During the events of the Triad Summit which turned into Alexander's insurrection, he challenged Alexander. He claimed he had been made aware of the mad emperors treachery, and was going to end him in a duel. It seemed like the mighty lion warrior was going to prevail until Alexander used his dark magic to turn him into a corpse.
