Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn have the basic genders of male and female, however only about one in 50 females are able to reproduce. Dragonborn are hatched in clutches of about ten at a time, creating a tight knit family unit that highly respect the mothers, since they are deemed blessed with fertility. Living in tight families the newly hatched children are often cared for by an older sibling, forming strong bonds between individual siblings.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Dragonborn have a preference to longer names with pairs of different  vowels, ae, ou, oa et.c. and sharp consonants such as K, X and T. This because it reminds them of the draconic language.

History

Dragonborn where originally spawned from the primal dragons alongside the drakes, wyverns and dragonlings. When they hatched they immediately felt the difference between themselves and their siblings, they felt the primal might that surged through the others lacking in themselves, giving them greater clarity of thought. At first they intended to use their less clouded minds to help and guide the others. This idea did not go over well with the other, being blessed with draconic minds that refused to acknowledge another race as superior in any way the dragonborn where banished from their siblings and thus tried to live alongside the other mortal races.   The first encounter was bloody. The other races had suffered under the dragons chaotic reign and refused to see the truth of their spawn. That they had more in common with the mortal races then the dragons. Over the course of centuries the dragonborn isolated themselves in remote settlements, only traveling to meet others of their kind, since the same fate had befallen them all, regardless what kind of dragon they originated from. Over time the avarice towards the dragonborn lessened, much thanks to the dragonborn dedication to hospitality, always inviting strangers, travelers and hunters to their homes and allowing them to leave with a positive impression. One need not spend much time in the company of dragonborn to know what separates them from the dragons. A great sense of empathy that allows them to form connections to others as equals and that makes most that know a dragonborn to count them as a friend.   When the dragon hunt began the dragonborn offered the hunters the knowledge they had from their ancestors time along the dragons. This perspective on how dragons view the world gave the hunters the edge they needed to succeed and in return they were welcomed into the fold of the races of Haelmark.

Basic informations

Lore

Dragonborn exhibited many draconic features, including a scaly hide, a large muscular body, the capacity to use a breath weapon, and resistance to the same elemental energy they can breathe, thanks to their draconic heritage. Because of thousands of years of interbreeding, the scales a dragonborn wore were scarlet, gold, rust, ochre, bronze, or brown in hue, though a few dragonborn with an stronger draconic heritage had scales resembling those of true dragons. The color of their scales bore little correlation to a dragonborn's draconic heritage, however.   Honorable warriors, with only one priority standing above their companions and their honor. This priority is a good name of their Clan. For Dragonborn clan is a family that he chooses voluntarily. Some Dragonborn stay in the clan in which they hatched for their entire lives, while others may change they clan several times. But those changes are never made without strong reasoning.   Dragonborn most commonly live their lives between other races, with the notable exception of a big community centered around Lochyokan - the Lake of Scales.

Age

Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.

Alignment

Dragonborn tend to extremes, making a conscious choice for one side or the other in the cosmic war between good and evil (represented by Bahamut and Tiamat, respectively). Most dragonborn are good, but those who side with Tiamat can be terrible villains.

Size

Dragonborn are taller and heavier than humans, standing well over 6 feet tall and averaging almost 250 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. You can use your breath weapon number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (a minimum of 1). After you use your breath weapon set number of times, you can't use it again until you complete a long rest.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

Draconic Ancestry

You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.
