Scoundrel's Safehaven

The Scoundrel’s Safehaven is so named because it was an island so overtaken by pirates, smugglers, forgers, grifters, conmen, scum, and criminals of every kind. The Empress hadn’t dared (or hadn’t cared) to wipe it out in fear of revolt. Or at least if that was a conscious decision and not just the Empress’s single-mindedness for expansion playing its part. But whatever the reason, the Scoundrel’s Safehaven had survived and thrived, living with its own rules like its own nation. There are four laws that no one breaks, an honor code if anyone on that island could conceive of such a thing. But that is mostly it. The city is built on stilts, but slowly sinks into the muddy ground. All the buildings are weathered but vibrantly colored, and the port is full of ships of all types, from small ilirok to giant three-masted Monomak ships.     It's a good place to hide from Aelgari law, get a job that pays extremely well or trade in goods of the rare and exotic kind.

Geography

It's a jungle island, with swampy warm weather and constant humidity. The sea is a beautiful backdrop but all the fresh water on the island is scummy and mosquito infested. The sky is steel gray and storms are common.

Fauna & Flora

There are local monkeys everywhere, bothering the inhabitants and living in the jungle trees. The swamped half of the island is filled with reeds and elegant sea-faring birds.

Natural Resources

The land is filled with wood for building ships and all sorts of vegetation and animal life for food, herbs and spices.
