Toa'ana

The Toa'ana are quite a striking sight outside of their island home, standing much taller and more muscular than your average human, and sporting vibrant gem-like skin tones, ranging from dazzling greens, blues and reds. With that said, it's not incredibly common to see Toa'ana folk beyond the shores of their homeland, though with their vast naval experience, it's not overly surprising to see them stray to the far corners of Gyrraholm either. These folk have a love and respect for their ancestral history like few other peoples of Gyrraholm, incorporating it into their architecture and art, as well as inscribing it into their very flesh at times. To them, there's nothing like a good story, and what is history if not that?

Basic Information

Anatomy

Toa'ana are humanoid in shape, generally possessing taller, more muscular builds than most humans. Their most notable visual qualities are their unique skin tones, ranging from gem-like greens, blues and reds in their youth, before gradually dulling to a more neutral grey, white or black in old age. Oddly, this dulling of skin tone appears to affect the tattoos that are common among Motu Tangata culture in reverse, becoming brighter and more colourful with age. Hair colour between Toa'ana does not vary much, with dark browns and blacks the most common.

Growth Rate & Stages

Toa'ana generally reach adulthood at around sixteen years of age, after which their age can be estimated visibly due to the dulling that effects their gem-like skin tone. On average, Toa'ana don't live much longer than 75 years (though some have been said to live over a century).

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most commonly found in the islands of Kohoruna, though their extensive naval traditions have lead to Toa'ana populations in parts of Wildehart, Kaldrold, Alshams Al'ard and Teikokami. Tales even tell of a floating city of boats in the middle of the ocean, densely populated by the gem-skinned sailors.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Toa'ana are gifted with some degree of darkvision, a gift honed over generations and generations of night-time hunting and sailing).
