Elves

Elves are magical humanoids. They are shorter than humans and their ancent counterpart, Arsa, and have a slender, lithe build, larger eyes, and pointed ears. They came to be after the Arsa had seemingly vanished.   There are different races of elves; Dark Elves, Sea Elves, High Elves, and Snow Elves.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

High Elves

High elves are taller and slimmer than most other elves. Most have gold hues, but some may have white to brown skin. Their almond-shaped eye colors range from golden yellow to blue, and their hair color ranges from white, silver, and various shades of blonde.

Dark Elves

Dark elves are shorter than high elves, but are taller than the other elves. Their skin tones range from dark grey to white. Their eye shape are more rounded, but their eyes have dark scleras and irises tend to be red, purple, and white. Their hair colors are mostly white, pale yellow, or silver.    Dark elf ears are usually similiar to high elf ears, but turned down a bit.

Sea Elves

Sea elves are the third tallest elf subrace. As their name suggests, they have webbed fingers and toes for swimming in water as well as gills for breathing underwater and thick skin to make them comfortable in freezing waters. They are more muscular than other races and are slimmer than most. Their skin tones range from pale blues and greens to deep green with blue stripes and patterns. Their hair colors tend to be deep blues and greens, but sometimes, they can have black or silver hair. Their monolid eyes tend to be blue, green, or turquoise.   Sea elf ears are shorter than most other elves' ears.

Snow Elves

The shortest race of elves, the snow elves have thick alabster skin to help keep them warm, tones ranging from white, light grey, or a pale blue, all with purple hues. Their hair colors tend to be white or grey, and their downturned eyes tend to be blue, grey, or white.   Snow elf ears tend to be more downturned than the other elves.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

High elves can be found just about anywhere except for Paya.    Snow elves are often found near mountains and other cold places; some have even made a home in the Frozen Isles. Those near and on mountains work closely with the Dwarves.    Sea elves are located in and near the ocean.   Dark elves are mostly found in the Undercity, but some can be found within normal civilization with other races.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Like their ancient ancestors, all elves have developed darkvision to see in darker situations. Dark and Sea Elves have more powerful darkvision while Snow Elves have a weaker darkvision.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Hair

Hair plays a sacred role in elf life. Most elves have their hair long and well-maintained. Long hair represents an elf's commitment. However, short hair is often stigmatized and regarded as rejection of elven tradition. While superstition believes that dark hair brings bad luck and white brings good luck, hair color doesn't discern any deal of luck, good or bad.   If an elf is forced to leave a clan or town for any reason, they are deemed as an exile. They are forced to cut their hair. Dark Elves often keep their hair short, as they reject the normal traditions.   When a loved one dies, a lock of their hair may be kept in a locket so family members can keep it close for remembrance.   However, sea elves have different hair customs. Their warriors' hair are often cut for fighting purposes and to not be slowed down in the water, and women tend to grow their hair up to 14 inches. Hair is harder to manage in the water, so they tend to not care for their hair like the other elves.
