Heimli

Our village thrives because we are all guided in unity behind our Light. She brought us hope when we were beaten and tired, showing us kindness that is all too rare. Now, we are content in this new land, finally a place we can call home. -Jon

Government

Jon, the head of the temple of the Guiding Light, organizes anything that is of great importance or involves many people. Although Jon takes the responsibility of large decisions, he always holds a council of of the elders and anyone else who has a say on the topic. In general, the eldest take responsibility directing the smaller affairs that relate to their craft. For example, the eldest blacksmith leads the mining expeditions that gather important resources from dangerous caverns.

Infrastructure

Watermills are common along the many riverbanks of Heimli. These mostly power small lumbermills and grinders.

The materials of the Hylands are often toughened by the constant exposure to harsh weather. Even the smallest trees take hours of struggle to split into usable pieces. So, the people of Heimli developed simple mechanisms, powered by water, to split logs quickly and to grind down the tough plants.

History

When the elders of the village where still young, they lived in a place many miles west of Heimli. Their home was a grand town more than twice as large and filled with all sorts of people. Then pestilence struck, Jon and the others gathered as many of the healthy as they could and ran. Many were lost as they tried to find a place in the harsh wildlands, to the marsh and other horrible creatures. That was until they found their Light, Fyòs had found them when they were on the brink of death and gave them life. Fyòs guided them to a safe place and has been with the town ever since, protecting them from the harsh world around them.

Geography

Heimli rests across several different sized islands. These islands are separated by rivers of varying sizes and strength. To connect the village together, bridges are made of strong petrified wood that won't be moved by harsh weather or strong currents. The central island is the largest and flattest, it holds the temple and is where festivals are held.
