Grimhaven - Phase 1

Humanity's first sin was the defilement of God's word; the angels' was teaching them the facets of the soul. In ancient times, a faction of the ancient builders rebelled against the angelic cause and their pact to avoid extended contact with humanity at any cost. These rebellious angels shaped man's evolution and progression to an irreversible extent; something seen as blasphemous by the abstaining party.   As punishment for their meddling, the earthbound angels had their legs constrained to never leave its soil. Their wings were torn from their backs to prevent flight, and they would sink and drown the instant they tried to swim. Now completely landlocked with no refuge in the heavens, these forsaken angels utilized their now-fading holy powers to construct massive bridges to bind the continents of the world. These bridges, while only remnants of their former glory, remain semi-natural wonders of the world, and proved key to humanity's survival.   Still under attack by heaven's residing angels, the now-branded demons hid away within humanity's ranks. During this period of hiding, they shared more and more of their angelic gifts and knowledge, propelling technological and philosophical advancement dozens if not hundreds of years. During this time, though, the angels deemed humanity tainted by the demons' foul deeds and conspired to wipe them out altogether with a titanic flood.   Since their first foray with humanity, though, the demons compensated for any kind of angelic interference. So, when learning of their plan for mass-genocide, they urged any human that would listen to retreat to their ancient bridges. They were warded against the kind of divine intervention facing them, and before long housed a majority of the human population along with the cargo brought along. The first few years on the bridge was rough, with martial law immediately taking action against a panicked and confused crowd, but eventually civilization rose to its previous glory before the brutal storms.   People eventually migrated away from the bridges after the disaster had finally quelled. A pact had been made between angels and demons, promising to cease any kind of meddling with human affairs, and humanity was free to retake the land as they pleased.
