Welcome to Gribball

Gribball - the Primer

Gribball is a world of post-apocalypse. Something happened to leave the world the desolate wasteland it is now, with only the cryptic Gribballisk in the center. But the mysterious world seems to be repopulating itself. The Gribballisk tears chunks off of other worlds and brings them into orbit around it. These shards of worlds are of all stripes - some have no civilizations, but biodiverse flora and fauna. Others appear to have also undergone an apocalypse. Still others are populated with civilization. Whatever their origin, these floating world-shards frequently come into some sort of contact, having found various ways of navigating the airspace above the Gribballisk. Some world-shards become the centers of shard-spanning empires, while others search for new technology on undiscovered worlds. Still others attempt to divorce themselves from the other world-shards.

However, some world-shards offered little for those who lived there, and they have long since exited those shards. One place of escape is the Skyshelter, a large wooden docklike area surrounding the Gribballisk. Those living there have figured out the quirks of the Gribballisk's odd gravity warping. The Skyshelter has no laws, making it oftentimes as dangerous or moreso than any shard.

Others, not wanting to face the dangers of Skyshelter or the world-shards, have gone into the interior of the Gribballisk itself. This is a strange place, full of the mysterious helmeted people known only as the Workers. These Workers tirelessly tend to the Gribballisk and its many complex wires without stopping to do anything else, save for terminating any who impede their progress. The further down one goes in the mazelike mechanical structure of the Gribballisk, the more strange things they start to see - the very lowest levels are governed by the Core, a sentient portal that appears to be controlling the Workers. On these same levels there are people, their faces and bodies frozen in time, stuck mid-scramble attempting to get to the Core. This is unsurprising as a great stasis field surrounds the Gribballisk, leaving all but the world-shards, their inhabitants, the Gribballisk itself, and the Workers and settlers inside it frozen in time.

Also frozen in time within the Gribballisk's stasis field are two of the gigantic humanoid war machines known as the Avengers. Other Avengers litter the landscape outside the Gribballisk's stasis field, each one outside of stasis maintained by scuttling and agressive repair constructs. Several explorers of Gribball have made their homes or camps inside these Avengers, but the secret to controlling them is unknown. Multiple Avengers are currently active, still following the commands of the pilot plugged in to the control node in the Avenger's head.

The blasted landscape of Gribball is filled with random geothermal explosions, dangerous creatures that seem to be the progeny of whatever destroyed Gribball, and people who have transformed to bio-mutants to survive. Few besides these live here, but occasional camps of those who sought a life beyond the confines of the Gribballisk's shield can be found. These camps are generally on high ground or near other natural defenses (such as in a walled crater) so as to have a chance of survival. Food is few and far between here, though life can sometimes be found in the same areas that camps are generally situated in.

Even below this landscape there lies fresh horror still. Great runes immediately below the surface repel trespassers. On further descent it becomes clear that this place has little connection to the rest of Gribball - strange warped landscapes, seas of blue fire, and mysterious, dripping pods hanging from the top of the caves are evidence of such. One might find survivors of Old Gribball here, eking out a deadly dangerous existence.
