Mercurial Division

The Mercurial Division is a military division of the Nylisia Army. The division got its name after how the recruits changed and became emotionally unstable due to the experiments. They take chosen children out of the Military Academy to put them through specialized training regimes and experiments with mutations to turn the children in to patriotic killers. Many of the children do not make it past the relentless training and experiments. The Mercurial are never without a handler who doubles as their teacher. These handlers tend to be higher sanctioned officers such as generals and are very rarely another Mercurial unless that mercurial has proven absolute loyalty to the king. 
Mercurial are not seen as humans by the rest of the military instead they are treated closer to prized weaponry being kept separate from other recruits until a battle and rarely being out of sight from at least one handler. Each mercurial's powers and strengths are different as the scientists who work on the mutations are constantly changing the mutagens. Certain children are able to better handle these changes and the reason behind this is not fully understood but it is believed to be related to having dormant fey or magical genes within the family tree.
Their training includes many manipulation tactics to keep them under control as well as being taught that their lives now only exist to serve the king and country and they should put down their lives if they are ordered too, they are also continually berated for emotions and told they are a weakness. Mercurial's tend to be sent out to raid villages by the border and mercilessly slaughter the inhabitants to weaken and break the enemies moral. For these missions they are given a group of young recruits to aid them in the raid. These recruits tend to stay the same so that the missions go smoothly without having a Mercurial have to get used to working with new people and vice versa. 
The result of this is a succinct force that is powerful and has no regard for their own life with each one being unique enough that a weakness of one may be a strength in another.
