He is the real reason we left Esbin. I was trying to protect you from him. He killed the woman I loved to try to get at the coin, and I promised myself that I would not let the same fate befall you. Now I am not there to protect you. I hope that the training that I gave you was enough.
I must make it clear that you can under no circumstances allow the coins to fall into the possession of Captain Rose. He is already one of the most deadly men sailing the seas, and if he controlled the powers that the coins are rumored to have, he would be able to take on Esbin's Royal Navy single-handedly. I could have rid myself of the coin, and maybe when I was younger, I would have, but now I can not bring myself to endanger an innocent person because of my mistake. I wish that I did not have to give this burden to you, but you are the only person that I can trust.

Do not trust him, but also do not disregard him. He has helped me get out of a very close call once. He is motivated by money, and he will be on the side of whoever is paying more, but do not cross him. Rose made that mistake, and now he is blind in one of his eyes and is missing two of the cursed coins he worked so hard to get.
Pierre, there is nothing that I want more than to have never found that accursed map. My sweet Jessebelle would still be alive, and you would have never turned to the life of a sailor. In your future lies only heartbreak. It is too late now to think about what might have been. Take this coin, and this periapt that will protect you from the scrying of Rose's wizards. I will leave you with the location of the final coin. I was the only person privy to this information, so it is my advice that you face Rose before going after the final coin. The final coin, an electrum doubloon, is hidden within the wreckage of the Tammeraut. The pirate named Syrgaul was the last person in possession of the coin, and his ship was wrecked when the curse placed upon the coin overtook him. This information and the coins must not fall into Rose's hands. Do not face him until you are ready.
