Mana and Magic

Upon the death of Cain he fell apart into shadows and black sand and scattered himself across the land. His magical essence turned into Mana, a form of Divine energy, and filled the world. He cursed the world with a gift, his gift, magic.    Every being on Grandheim from the mountain giants to the individual blades of grass use magic in their daily lives but those of conscious exististance who shape their powerful wills can use mana to change the very existence of Grandheim and its people. Merchants use it to light their candles and lock their doors, gardeners sing their plants to life, and the master blacksmiths bend steel without a hammer or fire. It is natural in the new world and will be the end of it all.
