Elvessa Van Tassell

Lady Elvessa Alluria Haupsburger von Gerehardt (a.k.a. Vessa)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born into considerable wealth and circumstance, Elvessa was raised at great expense by the finest governesses, tutors, dance instructors, riding instructors and physicians mathematical, philosophical and physiological. As she grew into a young lady of privilege, she became an accomplished dancer, poetess, painter, harpist, conversant d'salon, discourser, orator and beauty of society. A well rounded lady at large among the court of the Prince and the theaters and salons of the capitol.
By sixteen she had accomplished noteworthy reputations as a critic, dame-conversánt, young lady of fashion and despised-bitch-about-town. Garnering the exasperated loathing of no less than half of polite society and the peerage and gentry of Ruritania. Her ferocious hauteur, despicably flawless conversational sniping of her peers and betters, and tendency to be unabashedly correct in her assessments at every turn won her absolutely no friends in the parlors and fetés of the capitol. Save for the sorts of generally despised society sycophants and other intolerable villains of society with too much leisure, too much money and not nearly enough good manners.
As luck would have it she fell romantically for a scholar from the Ruritanian gentry who was at the capitol attending academy. Whom she met through her brother, a locally renowned academy gadabout and child prodigy. Pressures conspired after the death of her father and brother at war, and the dissolution of the family fortune through her foolish and extravagant mother's excesses, such that she was forced to marry for retention of title rights and family holdings at the expense of her husband's fortune.
Recognizing a remarkable beauty in a bad way, and wishing to rescue his tragically deceased best friend's sister from ill fortune and disgrace, Baltus van Tassell courted, proposed an offer of marriage and wed the fair but shrewish young colt of a girl at 18 and within two years, completed university and returned to his ancestral holdings in, to the horror of Lady Elvessa, rural Westfell.

Education

Private tutors from the Royal Academy, as well as personal instructors and trainers. Master classes and symposiums at the capitol.

Employment

The lady of the house of VanTassell

Accomplishments & Achievements

Enduring the provincial estate of her husband about a third of the year and only attending the entertainments of two of the annual seasons of fashion.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Lady Van Tassell is motivated by diversion. Flitting from one novel pastime to another in search of entertainment. An occupation is unthinkable and so she turns her prodigious acumen and attention to everyone and everything about her. She is motivated to improve upon the critically unacceptable conditions of everything in this pastoral cutlural wasteland she finds herself enduring.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

While stylish, engaging and intelligent, she is incapable of appreciating anything outside of the confines of fashionable society.

Likes & Dislikes

While among the first to appreciate and adopt new styles and fashions, she is mortified by the rustic and ridiculously staid styles of Westfell, so far from the capitol.

Virtues & Personality perks

Underneath her unbearably critical and impossible to please demeanor lies a person who genuinely cares that everyone around her is failing and actually wants to help them not be so disappointing.

Vices & Personality flaws

Wholly addicted to sartorial ephemera and transient fashions, she is incapable of loving her husband or family with anything approaching respect, regard or acceptance.

Hygiene

Immaculate. Flawless.

Wealth & Financial state

She manages and invests the inherited wealth of Balthus her husband with incredible financial wisdom and driven, near-unimaginable success. During the course of their marriage, while burgomeister Van Tassell has wonderfully managed the tiny hamlet of Westfell Dell, Elvessa has invested and managed their wealth to ten times its original fortune when she met him. Buying share in trade guilds and craft-houses, funding foreign trade excursions, backing the manufactories of arms for the crown and the burgeoning merchant class. The Van Tassells actually own three estates, two of which Baltus knows almost nothing about and would certainly be shocked to discover.
