He would have been a knight but for his low birth and desire to keep to Tulgeywoode Forest and his beloved Westfell.

The captain is a robust and energetic man in his mid thirties. Able and capable. Strong of limb. Straight-backed. With a disciplined composure and tall and poised bearing. He is agile, possessed of great endurance, and is pleasant and handsome to look upon. He possessed natural charisma and strong features that inspire leadership.

Tanned from years at training in the sun of spring and summer. With thick, dark hair and brows, a full beard, neatly-shorn short in a soldiers manner. He possesses a serious and appraising gaze, powerful arms, and an intimidating stature.

He wears at parades, an awarded Campaigner's Cloak of Ruritania, bestowed by the hand of Prince Ravenlocke himself for valor and service rendered to the crown in The War of the Black Barony. Where the wicked Baron Karza and his Dark Army were cast down by the Imperial Armies of Westphalia under the command of General Stephan Karameikos of Genovia.

Personal history
Born in Westfell to the veteran warrior Bronn Tannhauser and the dairymaid Tressa Van Tassell. Raised at the very edge of Tulgeywoode Forest, where the incursions of fairies and the residual wonder of that primeval forests powerful enchantment drifted over their charming cottage so regularly that magic was a commonplace to the happy family as dust. He grew to manhood among the fields and streams.
Education
Bronn his father raised him as any Ruritanian youth, in the manner of the Alpine folk of Westfell. Shepherding the Tannhauser's tiny flock of eight ewes, lambs and rams over the Velvet Green. Grooming their single horse, 'Bechtolde', a stalwart brown stallion from Rivermeet, feeding and shoeing him, and running him through the hills and dales of The Barrow Downs in the bright sunlight of spring and summer. Feeding and caring for the gaggle of geese they kept, Konrad and Gertrude, and the new spring goslings they produced. As well as their small flock of cocks and hens and their chicks.
Bart learned from his father to chop wood, plow and hoe their garden field. Build stone walls to keep out the hungry bucks and does from the garden. The ways of planting and harvest. Bartolde is the captain of Earl Sebastian Gatewood's guards. A capable and dedicated servant of the Gatewood family. Trusted and beloved. Who vouchsafes their security with a dedication brought on by his pride in being a man of Westfell, and having risen through accomplishment to his high rank. He commands twenty men at arms in standing service at any time with another 20 yeomen at the ready to be called if necessary among the folk of Westfell.

Trained well by Bronn his father, Bart is a fierce and able swordsman. Raised in the practice of longsword and boarspear and longbow, he is a strong-armed warrior, with a keen, hunter's eye. His arrows fly true and find their mark. His spearmanship is perhaps the best in Westfell. With a natural ease and practiced skill and nigh-magical talent for controlling the field of battle he is the worth of three regular men with a spear. His esteem and measure as a spearman among the yeomen of Westfell is broad and respected.
