The Frozen Lake

The frozen lake is located at the eastern part of the northern mountains, one of the coldest regions on the continent. The Lake is said to be frozen for more than 250 days each year, providing a strong enough layer of ice for both inhabitants and wildlife to freely roam. The frozen Lake has been formed through the consolidation of both the rain and snow water accompanied by the melting ice from the nearby Northern Mountains. As such the lake houses clean clear drinkable water suitable for all local and foreign inhabitants. It is one of the largest lakes on the continent, housing a unique range of species both above and below its waters. Certain species of fish has been able to evolve rapidly to be accustomed to the colder climates of the lake having little to no predatorial dangers from the outside. Due to the colder temperatures, the fish of the Lake are relatively slower, with a goal of reducing their metabolic rates. Species of fish include various types of salmon, trout's and whitefishes.   The limited amount of exploration of the region has resulted in there being limited amounts of knowledge available regarding the mammals and wildlife in the area. There have been sightings of tracks similar to that of a bear, though there have been no real sightings in its entire history. Arctic Foxes are known to roam the region hunting both the fish of the Lake as well as rabbits which have evolved to survive in this harsh climate. The limited amount of wildlife sightings is attributable to life generally being slower and more reserved in the region. The limited amount of food and the immense cold incentivizes all natural life to carry many layers of fat as well as to spend as little outside the warmer caves as possible.   Excluding the Mountain Men who have used this lake for both its water and fish, there's been limited interest from any other possible inhabatants. there have been several cases where people of the forest have visited these grounds to bathe their newborns in it's fresh cold waters. In a way they believe that it is away to strengthen their kin. the children who have been brought to this Lake have been known to bring their own kin in the future, creating an uncommon special tradition. The formation of the mountains results in heavy snow storms continuously flowing from the North to the South, making it more dangerous for those looking to have a long expedition. Unless properly equipped to be able to manage the cold and these storms, one could quickly be victim of hypothermia. While a terrifying location to stay in for a long time, it is certainly one of the most beautiful locations on the continent.
