Trerarth

The Trerarth is a symbol of power in many regions of Chearhond due to it being a prominent apex predator that can survive and thrive in two different environments. It has become the symbol of the royalty of Chearhond, with the future ruler going out and taming one to prove their worthiness to their subjects.

It is a rare sight to see the rulers of Chearhond without a Trerarth beside them with how loyal Trerarths are to whoever they deem part of their pack. They are even known to fight other Trerarths to protect those they consider family.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Trerarth is a four-legged quadruped animal with a unique design allowing it to successfully stalk prey and camouflage from other predators in two vastly different environments.
It has powerful front and hind legs that allow it to move at speeds of up to 90 km/h.
The Trerarth is well equipped for the environments it lives in with long and sharp teeth and claws used for offensive and defensive reasons. Not to mention the extra organ that allows the Trerarth to store more water for when it's travelling across deserts.

Growth Rate & Stages

When first born Trerarths are about 50cm long and can weigh up to 4kg, they are born blind and monocoloured. They don't develop their two-toned coats until they're about a year or two old which is when they start hunting and their diet shifts to more of a carnivorous diet.

Some Trerarths are born with two eye colours to match their two-toned coats others develop them as they age. If a Trerarth isn't born with heterochromatic eyes then they'll usually develop them around 4-5 years old when they are starting to enter the phase in their life when they are the strongest and most bold. This stage of life is when there are the most recorded attacks and sightings of the Treraths. This continues well into the early teens.

A Trerarth is considered an adult at around 30 years of age, this is when they will have reached their final height, and have their adult coat, scales, claws and teeth. It is unknown when in life the Trerarth will start to lose its baby features but it seems it can be anywhere from 15 to 30 years.

Ecology and Habitats

The Trerarth is unique when it comes to the habitats it can survive and thrive in. While most creatures on Chearhond are only found in one environment the Trerarth can survive in two, vastly different biomes. The Trerarth can be found in both the Ghraijona Desert and the Eiglas Plains, this is due to the fact that the Trerarth has exceptionally unique colourations. It has a mottle of tan shades on one side of its body and a mottle of greener tones on the other side, allowing it to camouflage in either environment.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Trerarth eats a wide variety of foods and the diet of a Trerarth will greatly vary with each creature. Overall the Trerarths are omnivorous but will tend to go for meat over vegetation when given the choice. If a Trerarth makes  a kill that is too big for it to eat in one go, they will often move the rest of the prey animal into their cave and protect it from other animals who might be keen on their meal.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

The Trerarth has strong scales on its front and hind legs which will match the colouration on that side of the animal. Its head also has the same scales with the colouration split. their eyes will often be two different colours, although this isn't the case for every Trerarth and sometimes this trait develops later in life.
The fur on the body of the Trerarth is thin and often described as coarse and patchy, although the fur manages to keep the Trerarth warm enough during the cold nights in the deserts.
The Trerarth has a long furred tail that it uses for balance when its running at high speeds or moving along a narrow area.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Trerarth has exceptional senses. It can hear prey as small as an Olunes moving from up to 5 km away, and see very well in the dark, with its eyesight being compared to an Arsadin's. Trerarth's have a great sense of smell, although this does deteriorate rather quickly as the Trerarth ages.
