Garris of Carpenden

Born in Carpenden to an indifferent family, Garris set out on his own just as soon as he was of age, becoming another member of Andoran's roving legions of migrant workers. Traveling from town to town in search of a better life, his wanderings took him northwards, where he eventually joined up with a Lumber Consortium cutting crew. While the work was steady, the pay was barely enough to live on. One night, while he and a few of his crewmates were drowning their woes at the local tavern, a group of rough-looking mercenaries approached with a surprisingly lucrative offer: help them recover an item stolen by an evil gang, look tough while doing it, and don't ask too many questions. Garris knew that he was no fighter, but he also knew he was nearing the end of his coin. Desperate for a decent payday, he reluctantly accepted.   When the fighting began, things escalated fast - much, much faster than Garris had ever imagined. He had expected some heated words, maybe a chase, possibly a minor brawl. It was no minor brawl. He wasn't sure where the lightning bolts had come from, but there were lightning bolts...and at least one fireball. He tried to be tough and fulfill his end of the bargain, but amidst the nighttime chaos, he was stabbed, and a strange sensation crawled over his body as everything faded to black.   Much to his surprise, Garris eventually woke to discover that he was, in fact, not dead. He was also relieved to find that the supposed "evil gang" that had captured him was actually quite reasonable, if a bit strange. Instead of doing evil gang stuff, the group of travelers healed him and allowed him to walk free and return to his life, should he wish. Even more surprising, one of them offered to pay him an even larger amount of money - each week - should he choose to travel with them instead. Once again, Garris weighed his options.   Garris has been traveling with the party for several weeks, seemingly content to let bygones be bygones in exchange for some easy coin. While he is neither a champion nor a scholar, Garris can be counted on to carry out a modest number of small, mundane tasks, be it fetching some wood from the forest, cooking a pot of porridge, or minding the Caravan when the party is away on business.
During the Foul Fingers' midnight raid on Sauerton, Garris was confronted by a Chelaxian agent, who offered him a large sum of money to deliver him Jarn's Best Friends. Garris accepted the offer, pulling the party away from the raid and into a confrontation with the mysterious agent. Spurned by this betrayal, Garris was cut down in anger by Santiago.

Ex-lumberjack and would-be bandit. Defeated, and then immediately hired by the Party as a go-getter and doer of mundane tasks.
