"Met the local librarian today, a pleasant young gnomess by the name of Peralesca Zatorbo. Pale pink skin, magenta hair and eyes. Goes by "Pearl" - insisted upon it, actually (usually, only the men have long first names, no wonder she would shorten it). Gave her some details regarding my assignment, and she was more than happy to help me search for information about Gray Renders and Red Reavers. Turns out that she had all the same volumes here in Bellis that I studied back at the Lodge in Almas, so no new info, but it was great to spend time with a fellow bookworm. Inquired as to whether I had any extra books that I'd be willing to part with, and unfortunately I did not. Got the feeling she's read damn near every tome in the public stacks - and probably most of the material in the library's arcane repository as well. It turns out that her legs are physically disabled, rendering her unable to walk. I suspect a physical abnormality by birth, rather than injury or disease - unfortunately, not something easily undone by either mundane or magical means. None of that seems to slow her down much at all. Carries herself about on a floating easy-chair just as fast as I can walk, and makes great use of minor magics in her day-to-day work. I get the impression that she knows far more about the practical application of the arcane (and has more personal ambition) than she lets on.
