Starfall
"What can I say about Starfall, 'tis a most interesting place. The mines are most impressive down there at the bottom of the bowl. Even the folks on the rim tend to do alright. Nice place." - Gambledon of the Phoenix
One of the larger cities in Numeria, Starfall owes its economic success to the Adamantine mines found at its center. It is the only source of adamantine on this continent and as such makes Starfall a wealthy exporter of raw materials and adamantine goods. highly skilled smiths come here to learn the secrets of adamantine smithing. the economic prosperity of Starfall has led to a similar political significance. it is often considered the unofficial capital of Numeria by outsiders and is sometimes viewed with jealousy by the rest of Numeria.
The namesake of the city is an ancient meteorite that fell on this spot. it was discovered some 300 years past and the mining outposts setup to harvest it grew into what Starfall is today. The fall of this meteorite left a truly massive crater within which the city is built. An astute observer might notice that, unlike most cities, Starfall lacks defensive segmentation. there are no curtain walls or other means of a layered defense. Instead, the perimeter wall, built upon the crest around this crater, is taller, thicker, and reinforced with adamantine. The defensive wall of Starfall is legendary and has never been breached.
Starfall crater sits next to a large lake. it is securely damned off and the city authorities spend a fair amount of the infrastructure budget ensuring the lake never floods the crater, but it is always there. Outside the city wall is a large harbor complex which provides for the fishing fleet and for shipping down river to the ocean and other coastal ports. The shipping lanes are the city's chief means of exporting the ore mined and good manufactured here.
