Tarraskin (Tarr-as-kin)

"I was walking through the forest when I first saw them. What looked like some horrid and unholy conglomeration of the Legendary monster Tarrasque and man emerging from the hole in the mountain. I watch from a distance, watching it look about the world, like a man who had just escaped the underdark and have seen the sun. It didn't do much outside of looking around and tasting some leaves. It went back into the hole after about 5 minutes of looking around. I will stay put and continue studying these strange new creatures."   -Troudash, Malakate. (2150). The Tarraskin. History

The Tarraskin where once a human tribe who had to escape from the Calamity event by fleeing into a tunnel they previously considered cursed. After almost 1 month of travel, and with food getting low, they eventually found the bottom cave. However, what they soon found out was that the titan known as the Tarrasque had already chosen to reside there. Hungry, tired, and almost suicidal, they had taken their chances with the Tarrasque, and had taken and ate from its flesh. Instead of awakening, however, the Tarrasque stayed in its slumber, as the Calamity event had caused its blind sense to go haywire, and made it believe that it was still alone in the cave. Little did they know that consuming the Tarrasque’s flesh would curse them, causing the tribe to go through a transformation, with each new generation having more features that resemble the horrid monster. Now, they resemble the monster almost shot for shot, with only small differences like the lack of claws, shell, and size. When the Tarrasque eventually left, the Tarraskin would do the same eventually, in 2298wr. While many still live in the mountain that birthed them, some have left to see the outside world, and often these few are adventurers.   The Human tribe, formed in 200wr, which was originally called "Romanual," was well known for killing and enslaving other tribes of Humans and other species. They very rarely got along with other races and other civilizations. They did regularly trade with the more advanced human civilizations for weapons and armor in exchange for slaves and pelts. The Romanual also actively hunted Orcs, Hobgoblins, Elves, Halflings, and Dragonborn. They treated these species as animals to hunt due to their belief that humanity was a superior species, and anything else are not worthy of living on the planet. It wasn't until after the Calamity event that this racism would disappear, believing that the gods are punishing them for hunting the creatures. This belief was bolstered when they had learned that Dragonborn and Elves had claimed their own countries.

Common Myths and Legends

The Tarraskin believe that the gods wanted them to become like this as a punishment for attacking and looting other tribes and outright hunting orcs. Their reasoning was that they had been cursed to walk the world as monsters because they were monsters.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Most races fear the Tarraskin, due to how young they are, and what horrific monster they resemble. However, they tend to have a generally neutral, albeit uneasy, relationship with all, except dragonborn and Orcs.   Dragonborn understand that Tarraskin are not monsters, something they would be accused of due to their almost negligible relation with Dragons. While they aren't particularly friendly towards them, a Dragonborn will most likely defend one if it is being attacked for no other reason except because it was scary looking. Tarraskin    While orcs do not have a strong rivalry to Tarraskin, the Tarraskin, when they were humans, hunted orcs religiously. Due to their reform, they do not do such things anymore, but still do not trust orcs.

Tarraskin Adventurers   Because of the small amount of Tarraskin found in the world, Tarraskin Adventurers are unheard of. Those that do are most likely either members of the few who left the Mountain early, or those who decide to leave more recently. The Decision to leave their tribe, either the ones that left the mountain or the one that already left the mountain, is a heavy toll, since while monstrous creatures such as Orcs and Drow have small communities found in most cities, as well as communities of common folk who accept these creatures, there are no Tarraskin outside of the 2 tribes found on Godsen, and most folk don't even know they exist. The reasons for a Tarraskin to leave are usually either religious, as in a god had asked for their aid, incredible curiosity, as in they are members of the first Generation to be born Tarraskin, and want to see what their parents have seen, or banishment. Banishment is a very rare case in Tarraskin society, since failure to keep their share could cause damage to the tribe. Those that are Banished from the Mountain are almost unanimously evil, and comited a crime that would put the tribe at risk, like murder or sabotage.
