Gemhounds

Gemhounds are an intensely frightening species of beings recently discovered and used by the temple.   Quasi-quadrupedal in nature, they stand four to five feet high at the shoulder. Their limbs are spindly, wiry muscle over little but bones. Their faces bear little in the way of defining features - instead, they're almost completely encased in clear or silvery crystalline formations. The facial crystals generally extend down their shoulders and spine. A gemhound has no clear eyes, nose, mouth, ears, or genitals, being more a spirit than flesh.   A gemhound cannot be trained as a pet, and they are not intelligent. They have one instinct and one alone: to seek out anything related to the farplane and destroy it. Physical damage rarely bothers them, and they can unerringly track traces of farplane from miles away. The temple has discovered a particular sound that makes them stop in their tracks and go dormant, allowing them to be kept until they're used to hunt down rogue godbound.   When on the trail of farplane essences, gemhounds give off a crystalline shriek loud enough to be heard from far away. That's the sign for everyone not involved to get out of the way. A gemhound will not care at all if it kills other humans in the process of getting to a godbound.   Gemhounds cannot be reasoned with and do not react to any form of kindness. The only way to truly show kindness to a gemhound is to shatter enough of its crystals to kill it.
