My Summer Camp 2021 Worldbuilding Pledge Document

Which project are your worldbuilding efforts tied to?

My worldbuilding efforts are tied to the current Dungeon World campaign I am running with my friends in the world of Girasol.

Which world are you working on?

I am working on the world of Girasol. Girasol is an old world, on the order of a few billion years. For much of that time, life on Girasol was slowly evolving from the first inoculation of a complex space-faring fungal colony. From this old mycelium grew the elves and they stewarded life on Girasol well. Thus began the Horamor, so-called time of love, for the Elves possessed an immeasurable love for the life they had been given and the lives they were entrusted with.   The Horaflurian Revolution began as some of these forms of life amassed power and abilities beyond the necessary caretaking of the Elves. These Florins, as they became known, saw themselves as a natural evolution from the Elves and their work and the world as their inheritance. They possessed a strength of will and of splendor and grandiosity that they summarily overthrew the careful stewardship of the Elves. Thus began the time of blossoming, their Horaflur.   The Florins, not content to simply inherit a carefully nurtured world, wanted their own lives to steward. They began to sculpt the mortal species out of the many animals that walked and swam across Girasol in relative peace. From this came men, dwarves, and so many others. The Florins relished in their assumed ascendance and deified dignity for many thousands of years.   It is known that all things must end. The creations of the Florins are now primed to spearhead their own revolution and bring about a new age, a time of Men. Theirs is not the same alliance as the Florins’ and the many mortals of Girasol have widely varying beliefs about where the future must lead them. Unfortunately, the loudest and the cruelest are one and the same, and the human kings have a habit of hubris that could spell destruction for more than just the reign of the Horaflur. King Paolo Tràstaleon, soon to be emperor, of a once-small city in the east called Micros, sees himself as the harbinger of his Horavir, and to achieve it he has unwittingly loosed a terrible Blight upon the whole of Girasol. Worse yet he believes he can control it!

Which area of the world(s) are you working on?

I will be working on the Open Territories, a collection of fiefdoms, druidic circles, ancient peoples, free cities, and rural settlements that are trying to hold off the grasp of the rising Empire of Microsia to the east. The Open Territories are by no means unified and often still war with each other, but they stand to be conquered one by one if they cannot rise to the occasion of their own demise.

How much are you aiming to complete?

I want to reach at least a Silver Badge, but I’m Diving for the Diamond.

When will you write?

Mornings before clocking in to work most likely. Probably some late night bouts of inspiration too.

Who is your support network?

My wonderful players and best friends, Ezra, Kaitlin, Daniel, and Avery, and my non-player best friend Anna, as well as my beautiful partner Brooke. Possibly some other fellow travelers along the way. Our world is grounded in ecological principles and open-ended, queer, anti-imperialist worldbuilding, so I may also turn to the fan communities for Friends at the Table and This Planet Needs A Name and to fellow gardeners and ecology-minded folks.
