Tooran, Xassatim (Tour-ahn, Kah-sah-teem)
The cultural center of power for both the cultural regions of Transoxiana and Khorasan and the political seat for the Shah of the Empire of Xassatim (Xassati in adjective form). It prides itself on power through diversity - though the word "shah" is Persian, it has the history of the Kipchaks and some steppe cultures. They have a tense but important trade relationship with the kingdoms of Bharata but otherwise are quite quiet on the global stage. The ancestor of the founders, famously, was Queen Scheherazade, the great scholar, story collector, and storyteller, who is also the initial ancestor of Aribekah and Xavi's line of power. More directly, the kingdom starts with the Khwarazmians (a group ruling prior to the great Khanates of Timujin Luan's empire, which is equivalent to Genghis Khan's empire in this timeline). The Shah himself moves around the empire a lot, visiting different parts of it, but he still spends the majority of his time here, in Tooran.
Demographics
Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Persians, Qashqai, Khorasani, Turkmen, Jews (mostly from the Arabian corridor right across the Caspian Sea), Uyghurs, Tatars. Majority Muslim but with many cultural influences - including Judaism and Zoroastrianism - which frankly allow for a more secular practice of the religion.
Defences
The deserts on some of its borders are a major deterrent, if not a full defense, to anyone wishing to attack from the west. The fairies living in the surrounding seas and the creatures who coexist with them are a major natural defense as well. The northern land of the fairies lies just north of them, with the southern end of the Svarog Mountains and a flooded river region.
