The 500/The Cabinets

The local governments that work under the Directoire are called the Cabinets, or the 500, which is pretty much the same in English and French. The former towns of Gutonia were broken into 89 provinces based on the 500 individuals in the legislative government when the Directoire took over, in order that trade agreements and travel might be strictly regulated between them. Cavarhone is just one of those provinces, and it resides near the southernmost coast. Chenonceau, where Ziele ends up, is another province. Versailles, where the lost heir of Gutonia lives, is thought to be desolate but nay, it's just abandoned mostly. Each town along the Seine and the Rhone acts as its own province because organized trade networks are considered usurping the power of the Directoire, who remember are semi-immortal greedy people. The Cabinets are usually made up of the local heads of households, and most of those heads are men, to the point that whenever a woman tries to join, it is thought of as so weird that she's encouraged to train and recommend a male relative for the job. The rabbis in the Cabinets are also expected to produce golems, clay living creatures made by man, which then provide security for the government.

Culture

Celtic-French and Jewish. They are doing the practical aspects of running a community, so they reflect the same cultures as their families and people.
