The Sons of Flame

The Sons of Flame refers to the three sons of the Immortal Flame, a massively powerful demon released into the world sometime during the earliest years of the Unified Era. Fathered on a unknown human woman, they would go on to leave a lasting legacy through their descendants: the naga and the Seraphs.

Historical Record

Due to how long ago they lived and the circumstances of their birth, records of the Immortal Flame's children is a combination of secondhand records, anecdote, and myth. While it's undisputed that they existed in the Fertile Crescent region of the Old World somewhere between the years 3500-3400 BCE, very little is known about the details of their lives or their individual personalities. The following is a rough approximation of what can be gathered from various fragmented accounts.   CYRUS/KOUROSH, SON OF FLAME
The eldest son of the Flame, about whom the least is known. He was referred to as a demon, though it's not clear whether this referred to a more distinctly non-human appearance or was a statement on his actions. Cyrus was said to be a violent warlord, rising to power at his father's side through open use of his affinity for fire and fire magic before being cut down by the Jackal Reaper in a way that allowed the Flame's banishing from the material world.   ZAHAK, SON OF FLAME
The Flame's second son, said to have made himself much beloved of a human settlement after walking out of the desert as a self-purported holy man and using his magic to ingratiate himself to those around him. The people's perception of him shattered when his children with a human woman were born 'monstrous and with the features of serpents'; though Zahak rescued his offspring and briefly nurtured them before turning them into the desert, he was later killed by the Jackal Reaper like his brother and father. His children were the first naga, of whom Ahkriss and Kar'kess still survive.   DARIUS, SON OF FLAME
Of the three sons, Darius is the one about who the most is known; however, almost all information comes through a heavily romanticized lens due to being taken from the records and mythology of his descendants the Seraphs. Supposedly the most virtuous of his siblings, Darius made no great show of his abilities or inhuman heritage and learned to blend in with the human population of the Fertile Crescent. As a result he was spared the fate of his father and siblings and went undetected by the Jackal Reaper, allowing him a full life in which to marry and father children of his own.
Unlike their cousins the naga, Darius's children were fully human in appearance but inherited their father's affinity for fire and talent with magic. They were raised to think of their demonic ancestor as a god rather than a demon, sent to grant humanity power; it's not entirely clear whether this was a deception on Darius's part, or his heartfelt belief as well. Whatever the case, the newly formed Seraph family would continue to expand on this narrative over the years.

Notable Traits

Accounts and stories of the Sons of Flame are consistent in describing them as similar in appearance; tall and with handsome features, brown-skinned, with gray or silver eyes and stark white hair. They were described as having 'marks of flame' on their skin, though it's unclear what exactly this refers to.   They were all immune to the effects of fire, in the same way as their naga and Seraph descendants, and powerfully talented with magic in a way that strongly favored the use of flame. It appears that their bloodlines continue to breed true with regards to passing along these abilities, though the vigor of this legacy seems to be diminishing among the naga.
